The Editors
Stave & Slide is led by two retired United States Air Force veterans whose friendship was forged in their final years of service — often over bourbon and blues records that sparked long conversations about craft, history, and culture.
What began as shared appreciation became a sustained exploration. As they transitioned from military life, the question became how to carry that exploration forward — not as casual enthusiasm, but as something more deliberate. Stave & Slide emerged as the answer.
The editors bring to the publication the discipline of military service, a deep respect for tradition, and a belief that ritual — whether musical or distilled — deserves attention rather than consumption.
Why This Work Matters to Them
Bourbon and blues are not treated here as hobbies or lifestyle markers. They are studied as American cultural forms shaped by labor, geography, structure, and improvisation.
That approach reflects the editors’ own values: patience, craftsmanship, and respect for lineage.
Stave & Slide exists to examine these traditions thoughtfully — and to create space for others who value the same.
What Readers Will Find
The Journal publishes essays grounded in history and craft.
At the Bar presents ritual in motion — measured pours, balanced cocktails, and conversation.
This Week in Ritual highlights what is being listened to, poured, and practiced.
Each element is curated with intention.
An Open Invitation
The editors view Stave & Slide not as a platform for self-promotion, but as an ongoing conversation. Readers are invited to engage — not as spectators, but as participants in a shared practice of listening, pouring, and reflecting.
The work continues.
